Messer Reports 2025 Sustainability Progress

Bad Soden, Germany, April 30, 2026 - Messer, the world’s largest privately held industrial gas specialist, published its 2025 Sustainability Report, continuing its long-term commitment to responsible operations, safety, and people. The company focused on practical improvements in energy use, operational efficiency, and organizational resilience, while maintaining high standards of transparency and governance.

In 2025, Messer advanced initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce market-based greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2% in its own operations year-over-year. These included renewable electricity procurement, solar installation at sites in Asia, Europe, and the Americas, and ongoing investments in technologies for air separation units, such as waste heat recovery as well as state-of-the-art compressor and control systems.

“Messer’s approach to sustainability is rooted in operational discipline and continuous improvement,” said Bernd Eulitz, Chief Executive Officer of Messer. “By steadily enhancing how we run our facilities and manage resources, we strengthen our competitiveness while meeting our responsibility to employees, customers, and society.”

Messer’s industrial gases and application technologies continue to help customers pursue their environmental and operational objectives. These solutions include clean hydrogen, which contributes to the decarbonization of industry and mobility; oxy-fuel combustion technologies, which reduce fuel consumption and GHG emissions in high-temperature industrial processes; and wastewater treatment using industrial gases, which supports the management and reuse of process water. Further, Messer has developed a portfolio of carbon management services under the ZeCarb brand for the capture, utilization, and storage of industrial exhaust gases.

Safety and people remain at the core of Messer’s sustainability strategy. For its own workforce, Messer emphasizes a safety culture and employee development with engagements and training programs, including initiatives such as Messer’s annual Safety Day. For customers and partners, Messer upholds clear safety standards and offers tailored safety programs designed to support safe interactions and operations.

Since 2014, Messer has voluntarily published sustainability reports. The 2025 Sustainability Report documents how sustainability is embedded in Messer’s business, outlines progress on its sustainability goals and demonstrates the ongoing preparation for alignment with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). As part of this process, Messer has obtained independent limited assurance for its double materiality assessment and selected non-financial key performance indicators.

Strong governance underpins Messer’s sustainability efforts and serves as a platform for long-term growth, with a focus on ethical business practices, compliance, and cybersecurity.

“Sustainability at Messer is not a standalone initiative—it is integral to how we operate, manage risks, and create long‑term value. This report highlights our progress on GHG emissions reduction, Messer’s safety and people‑oriented culture, and responsible business practices across our operations and value chain. It also reflects our continued progress in aligning our reporting with evolving regulatory and stakeholder expectations.” said Patricia Hargil, Chief Sustainability Officer of Messer.
